Dear Blog Friends,
It’s been too long (*holding hand out for proper wrist slaps*), so it’s about time I updated y’all! A quick shout out to readers Jeff, Erin, and Arpita for asking when I’m going to write again. You don’t know how much it means to have your support!
Overall, I’ve lost 45 pounds since the weight loss journey began, with an overall goal of 100 pounds. I’ve decided to take a new approach for the remaining 55. Right now, I’m aiming to lose five pounds at a time until I reach a happy, healthy number. What is the number? I have no clue! But I do know I’m taking it slowly, five pounds at a time, with a balanced approach. When my body tells me it can absolutely lose no more, even with hard work, I’ll stop.
Lately, when I run into someone I haven’t seen awhile they ask how I’ve lost 45 pounds, “What’s the secret?” Unfortunately, I explain there’s no secret. Exercise, cutting out a lot of processed foods, incorporating more water, fruits, veggies, etc. It’s hard work. In the past week, I ate pasta, a cookie, pizza (Portofino’s!), ribs, ice cream, drank a few glasses of wine. *Gasp!* I’m not beating myself up for this at all. It’s all about balance. I didn’t eat everything on one day, and I balanced those meals with healthy ones.
The restrictive diet plans don’t tell you what happens when the restriction ends. If you cut out carbs for months to lose weight, what will happen when the “no-carb diet” ends? Personally, when I went that route, all weight lost going carb free was gained back quickly after incorporating carbs back in.
Basically, I’m looking to live a balanced life. This week, after a few weeks of backing off on frequent exercise, my goal is to work out at least 30 minutes every day. That’s it. My one goal for the work week. Next week, I’ll try to eat more veggies. The week after, another small step. Small steps will add up to one big change. What’s one small step you can take this week to get to your goal?
